Draw A Pet Portrait Assignment: A pet portrait is a picture, painting, or drawing of a pet! A pet portrait shows what the animal looks like and often their interests or personality. 1. Pick one of the cats below. Take a really good look at the cat and read their story. 2. Draw a picture of the cat. Make sure you pay attention to any markings they may have. What can you put in the picture with them? Can you take parts of their story and put them in the artwork? Add color with paint, crayons, colored pencils, or markers and remember to fill all the space!
This is a pet portrait that I did of a cat named Meeko that lives in South Carolina. He loves to snuggle up on warm blankets!
3. Share your art! PAWS would love to share your artwork with their volunteers and fans! Email a good quality photo of your artwork to firstname.lastname@example.org and be sure to include the name of the cat and the artist! You can also drop the artwork off at the shelter on Saturday from 11:30-1:30 (maybe bring a donation with you)! Your art might make someone want to take one of these kitties home!
Here are a few of the cats at PAWS:
Ollie: Ollie is about 1 yr old. He came to the shelter when his owner could no longer keep him. Ollie has a lot of energy and likes to run and play
Libby: Libby is 8 years old and is very sweet. She loves chin rubs. Libby came to the shelter pregnant and was a very good mom.
Trooper: Trooper is about 2 years old. He was found abandoned in the woods and brought to PAWS. He was very thin and hungry but is now happy and gaining weight!
Squeakers: Squeakers is about 10 months old. He came to PAWS from another rescue because he has a medical condition. He was adopted once and returned. He is very sweet and loves it when you pet him!
Mitzi: Mitzi is 4 years old. She was adopted out as a kitten and was returned to us last year. Mitzi has been through a lot and is learning to trust people again. Volunteers at PAWS are working with her to learn how to trust again. She needs a very quiet home with someone who is patient, kind, and understanding.
KittyKitty: KittyKitty is about 4 years old and came to PAWS with his brother, Bogey, when his owner moved to Florida and left them in the house. PAWS went in to the house and rescued the two cats (Bogey was too scared to have his picture taken). KittyKitty is really scared and needs a home where he and his brother can chill out
Amelia: Amelia is 3 1/2 years old. She came to the shelter in 2016 and then was in foster for 2 years until she had to come back. Amelia is diabetic and needs her insulin and blood sugar monitored every day. Even through all of this, she is a very sweet cat and loves to be petted
Gato: Gato came to PAWS a month ago. He is very scared boy. He was abandoned at a farm in Woodstock. PAWS was able to get him to their shelter, but he is very scared. Volunteers are working to get him to trust people again. Gato is looking for a home with someone kind and patient who understands what he is going through.
Lance and Lynxa: Lance and Lynxa are a bonded pair (which means that they have to stay together) and almost a year old. They came to the shelter as kittens when they were abandoned in someones yard. They are very shy but love to play and lay in their hammocks. Lance and Lynxa need to find a home where they can stay together.
Satin, Shimmer, & Shine: These siblings are about 7 months old. They were born outside and the owner brought them in her house. They are sweet but very shy and are currently in foster care, looking for their forever home together.
